Management Accountant

Salary – Competitive

Position Overview: The Senior Management Accountant will report to the Finance Director of RS Marine Group and work with all members of the management team to support commercial, operational and manufacturing initiatives. This role requires hands-on financial accounting experience and knowledge of SAGE products and will play an active role in ensuring costs are controlled tightly across multiple sites. This is a very varied role with opportunities to be involved in several projects across the Group as well as help to improve and simplify current finance processes. They must be capable of nurturing strong peer-level relationships.  It would be helpful to have some understanding of the way-of-working and opportunities within the marine leisure industry. 

Key Responsibilities 

Provide strategic insight and business management 

  • Responsibility for improving financial insight across the RS Marine Group as well as deep dives into individual business unit / subsidiary performance, working closely with non-finance managers. 
  • Lead the production of monthly reporting for the group and individual business unit performance (including developing product level analytics across each business). 
  • Assist the Finance Director in the production of budgets and forecasts, with end-to-end responsibility for 1 or 2 business units (including balance sheet and cashflow projections). 

Enable the management team to grow the business 

  • Liaise with other members of the management team to ensure that operating budgets and forecasts are understood, managed and met. 
  • Design and customize reports using tools such as Power Query and Sage Report Designer to provide actionable insights to stakeholders. 
  • Assist the Finance Director in developing relationships with external IT providers, insurers, dealers, auditors, and government agencies. 

Developing the finance capability of the Group 

  • Ensure compliance with external reporting requirements, and utilize various software tools including Sage200, Sage50, Excel, Power BI, and Power Query for financial analysis and reporting. 
  • Assist with payroll accounting, budgeting and forecasting, providing back up for the Financial Controller and Finance Director on several other key monthly processes, including undertaking balance sheet reconciliations, commissions and royalties. 
  • Assist in the preparation of audit information, including fixed asset audits and various reconciliations, to ensure compliance and accuracy. 
  • Perform intercompany reconciliations, assist with the annual stocktake processes, and identify prepayments/accruals required to maintain accurate financial records. 
  • Help manage costs by reviewing major areas of spend (e.g. utility / IT contracts and event marketing and operational spend) to mitigate financial risks and optimize cost efficiencies. 

Requirements and Skills: 

  • A business leadership mindset, able to see beyond the finance numbers to understand and guide how decisions and actions can help further grow a market-leading business  
  • Strong systems capability. The ideal candidate will have experience of using SAGE 50 and SAGE 200. They must be proficient with MS Office Products, including Excel, Word and Teams. Powerpoint and Planner experience is desirable. 
  • Strong interpersonal skills and capable of operating effectively with Directors, managers and colleagues 
  • Proven experience as a management accountant or financial reporting analyst ideally within the maritime manufacturing, or a comparable, industry. 
  • Thorough understanding of cash flow management, budgeting and forecasting. 
  • Proficiency in financial analysis, report design, and data analysis tools. 
  • Experience with balance sheet and intercompany reconciliations. 
  • Management experience is desirable as in time the role is expected to take a more active role in the development of the finance assistants as the business grows and routine activities are automated and standardised. 
  • Part qualified or fully qualified accounting certification (e.g. CIMA / ACA) is essential. 
  • Ongoing right to work in the UK
